Mr & Mrs Lowe

After living in their property for a couple of years Mr & Mrs Lowe have concluded the separate kitchen, breakfast room, utility and summer room simply weren’t for themselves and their 2 teenage boys lifestyles.

As the Lowes are friends with a longstanding developer client of RFK’s, both Trevor and builder were asked to come up with a workable scheme.

Trevor, owner of RFK suggested knocking through from the breakfast room into the kitchen and fitting large patio doors overlooking the large garden thus allowing natural light to flood through from front to rear and visa versa whatever the time of day.

In the utility he also suggested knocking through into the summer room and blocking up a not needed door and window to create one large utility come boot room that is ideally suited to a pair of rugby playing teenagers coming in from school.

On consultation with the builder it was agreed this was all possible and that also a large feature ceiling box was the best solution to the issue of extraction.

What We Did

The design Trevor came up with was to create a large island, biased to the centre of the room to both ensure the purpose designed multimedia wall and social area felt as if they belonged to the kitchen, which also left plenty of room for the matching breakfast table to be positioned in front of the patio windows.

In the now extensive utility & boot room, a conventional simple run of work surface with the wet appliances, sink and taps was complemented with a 3 meter run of tall units housing a variety of internal storage solutions and deep storage drawers all of which have proved to be highly functional as well as aesthetically pleasing.

The Result

After close liaison with the builder a tight schedule of just 4 weeks to fit in around the end of exams and school holidays was agreed.
RFK commenced the installation at the beginning of August and just two weeks later the project was completed.

Mr & Mrs Lowe are delighted with the end result and have found that this large, family space, is now truly the heart of the home with the ceiling box in particular attracting many positive comments from visitors making it understandable that this kitchen is a Design Award entry.
