Mr & Mrs Harris

Objectives

Daren & Helen Harris have 2 teenage children and live in a large village called Brixworth on the out skirts of Northamptonshire. Darren is a director of a building contractor services and consultancy firm. Helen works part time for her husband.

They purchased the property which was round the corner from their old house in order to build a large extension to give them their dream family home.

Darren & Helen came into the show room with their extension plan in November 2014.

They loved our curved display in the showroom which seats two, but wanted seating for six on an island, so we started with that as our design inspiration.

They wanted a Corian surface, J trim gloss door, Neff appliances, including a large hob and downdraft extractor and American fridge, plenty of storage and work surface, they also knew they wanted oak flooring.

Having such a large family room, they did not want the kitchen to be dwarfed by the space nor to be too spaced out that it did not function.

What We Did

We wanted to create a large seating area that caught the eye and seated 6. As they wanted an oak look floor, we designed a large inset overhang to the Corian in Oak to complement the floor and creating a sweeping J shape, thus giving us a wider section to house the hob and the downdraft which required a large amount of room as we placed drawers under the hob. This dictated the width of the J, so we blanked the end off with dummy doors and had a useful working unit on the end, thus no need for unsightly joined end panels. Having such a large overhang required steel braces set under the Corain so not to be visible from the family room end.

Deliberately placing the hob inside the curve with only one entrance point allows Helen to cook up her culinary delights without the family’s interruptions and a clear view of the ovens, with continuous flow of work surface to the side and behind for preparation.

We mirrored the curves in the oak shelves, which matched the sweep of the corner curved unit underneath. This unit enabled the soil vent pipe to sit behind. The bank of tall units includes 3 different larder solutions which gives ample storage along with the American fridge freezer.

The porcelain door picked up the fleck colour in the work surface giving a nice neutral look so Helen could have her pick of colours for the soft furnishings. The Oak warms the whole room and stops the kitchen looking too sterile.

The Result

A well functioning kitchen that looks stunning with its contemporary design and use of oak, this family orientated kitchen is both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

I would like to thank you and your team (Rusty and Dave) for the fantastic kitchen that you have designed and fitted for me and Darren. Words cannot express how pleased we are with the end result. We came to Rugby Fitted Kitchens and told you we wanted a WOW!! Kitchen and that is certainly what you gave us.

You listened and took on board everything that we had on our wish list for a dream kitchen and you came back with extra ideas that we hadn’t thought of.

We have also been impressed with the after sales service you have given us, some companies from past experience don’t want to know once the kitchen is fitted, but you have been absolutely brilliant.

We will definitely be recommending Rugby Fitted Kitchens to our family and friends.

Kind Regards

Helen Harris
