Hamilton Kitchen

Alastair & Claudia, who entertain regularly, wanted a new kitchen to compliment their planned extension with the ‘wow’ factor.

As they are both keen cooks they totally bought into the need for a pair of Neff pyroclean multifunction ovens combined with a combination oven/microwave and a full steam oven. Being a busy working couple they mostly buy fresh so I also suggested they go for 2 x 70/30 Neff fridge/freezers rather than the more conventional full height fridge and separate freezer. They also really wanted a large, easy to clean hob on the island so the Neff 90cm ‘Point & Twist’ Flex Induction hob was the perfect option especially when combine with the flush fit ceiling mounted Neff extractor. Both were drawn to the Schuller Glasline matt Lava Black handleless door design after seeing the CAD views with the stainless Steel handleless sections and to the Silestone Alumino Nube Quartz worksurface. They wanted to be able to have seating at the island, somewhere to keep the Champagne chilled and for the whole kitchen to have a very minimalist and clean lined look.

What We Did

There were several challenges presented to me when approaching this design the first being that an existing utility room was encroaching into the overall space so when I suggested we do away with this separate room and incorporate the utility area within the kitchen the client quickly grasped the benefits and went for it. To achieve this, we used the Neff washer dryer and sited the Neff dishwasher at mid-level in the tall unit bank. This allowed room for the underfloor heating manifold and a Quooker kettle tap.

The second challenge was extraction which I resolved in conjunction with the builder by designing a reverse ‘Top Hat’ ceiling box to conceal the motor body of the Neff ceiling extractor and to facilitate the routing of the ducting along the joist run.

The third challenge was lighting, as the door style selected was black the clients wanted a lot of lighting but in controlled zones with a variety of mood settings. This was achieved with the subtle use of concealed LED strips with RGB remote control.

The Result

All 3 zones of this kitchen – sink/ utility zone, hob/ island/ seating zone and the tall food storage/ ovens zones all work perfectly individually but when combined form a harmonious whole resulting in a very practical and easy to use kitchen yet looks simply stunning.

Not all clients give us designers as much of a free rein as did Alastair and Claudia and although involved at every step of the design process they remained flexible and open minded to our suggestions and the design has benefitted from this confidence they showed in RFK.

The use of a strong, dominant colour like Lava Black for the kitchen could have been disastrous but it complemented the wrap around bifold windows and with the correct use of worktop material and colour when combined with the carefully chosen floor tiles and the overall lighting scheme it has resulted in a light and airy space and one in which the kitchen itself is definitely the centre piece.

The Neff Oven bank, with all its aligned control panels, uniform design style and the seamless combination décor strips perfectly centred into the tall bank creates a focal point to the kitchen which draws the eye. Similarly, the island, with its mirror image ceiling box, all lit from above as well as from below leave both zones seemingly floating in air.

The clients are absolutely delighted with the finished results and can’t wait for the final touches to the exterior to be finished so they can have their first party!

From our first meeting with Trevor at Rugby Fitted Kitchens, it was clear that we were going to create our ideal kitchen.

Trevor’s design and product knowledge and his attention to detail was second to none and helped us all along the way to make informed choices that would meet our needs and exceed our expectations.

The main objective of our extension and new kitchen was to create an inviting and user friendly space to live in and entertain our friends and family.

We wanted to create a ‘wow’ factor whilst at the same time to have a kitchen that facilitates ease of use, has ample and accessible storage and has the appliances to cater for all occasions.

With its clean lines and high quality contemporary look, it more than meets our design brief.

At a practical level the range of appliances provides optimum functionality, from daily use of the range of ovens for roasting, steaming or microwaving and a highly responsive and multi functioning hob. With the added flexibility of dual fridges which gives us the capacity for fresh chilled storage and when catering for larger numbers.

We are absolutely delighted, thank you to Trevor and his team!
