Andy and Mandy (McCabe) live in a large detached modern home, with separate kitchen and utility. And although both rooms functioned ok didn’t offer the open plan living space in vogue today. So, Andy and Mandy embarked on a single storey extension to the back of their property and planned to remove the kitchen wall to the extension then remove the wall between the kitchen and the utility to create one large kitchen open plan living/ dining space with log burner. They were looking for a white high gloss with a modern feel, to include island complete with social seating, American fridge freezer- single oven and combination microwave oven, induction hob as well as working around the existing boiler and to include laundry.
The biggest design challenge was working around the existing boiler and including all of the above. The boiler was successfully hidden by a very shallow larder unit to the right- hand side of the American style fridge freezer and balanced with a full depth larder to the left- hand side of the fridge freezer. The American fridge is pulled out to fully expose the boiler when servicing is required.
Lots of large drawers on a 780mm base and 780mm high wall raster system from our Schuller C2 range maximise accessible storage. The integrated washing machine and dishwasher fit seamlessly within the design. The island is a showstopper with chunky concrete affect laminate inset into the island worktop creating the overhang for seating. A wine cooler faces the dining area to add interest and the Aluglazed byfolding wall units add a linear line and some mood lighting on the sink wall. An angled back extractor makes a practical and open design feature of the cooking area with work surfaces maximized by the proximity of the island. Dark grey Silestone worksurfaces create a nice contrast to the units and set the tone for the other finishes.
The result is a stunning modern kitchen within an open plan living dining space complete with log burner and Karndean flooring. A kitchen to be proud of.
From our initial consultation with Tom it was clear that he had listened and understood exactly what we were looking for from our new kitchen. The drawings and images provided really helped to bring the design to life.
Tom patiently guided us through each stage, including choosing colours and appliances, whilst accommodating our requirements and time frame to fit in with the building work we were having done. Daniel the kitchen fitter was also extremely efficient & went out of his way to assist us.
The overall effect is stunning & we are delighted with the professional service from Tom, Daniel & the rest of RFK. We have already recommended them to others.
